The focus of Asian medicine is on balancing your energy or life force (Qi).  It seeks to decrease stagnation (i.e. depression), increase flow (i.e. soft flexible muscles) and nourish you at a deep level (i.e. boost immunity).

Acupuncture points are potent gatherings of Qi along meridians, or pathways of energy. I like to use the metaphor of a quilt: meridians are the stitching that connects the fabric of your body (skin, muscles) with your deeper core (organs, bones) or the batting.  Understanding how your shoulder is connected to both your hip and your liver is a powerful way to affect change in your body.

My Japanese acupuncture can help you negotiate patterns of stagnation or deficiency, resulting in an overall feeling of resilience and well-being.  Japanese acupuncture’s power lies in reading your body to give you an individualized treatment that your body can integrate.

What is an acupuncture session like?

I address both your underlying root pattern, as well as what you are currently having difficulty with. I often incorporate ways for the treatment to continue for several days afterwards.  The main areas that I work with are your feet, hands and ears because these are microsystems — areas where you have a lot of nerve endings and where the whole body can be mapped.

To move or add energy to your body, I use hair-thin needles, moxibustion (an herb that is heated near your skin), finger pressure and tuning forks (sound vibration correlated with the sun, moon and earth) at acupuncture points. By stimulating these points, I can help you negotiate patterns of stagnation or deficiency, resulting in an overall feeling of resilience and well-being.
